Start at Mahiru’s counter in Pancake Station, finish the spray-can and board-marker quests, then ride with Q/LT and boost with R/LB.
You unlock skateboard use by completing Mahiru’s collection quests in Pancake Station. Enter the Skateboard Shop and talk to Mahiru at the counter to start. Collect all five spray cans, then speak to her again to begin the five-board-marker quest. Once both collecting quests are done, the skateboard becomes usable.

Skateboard shop location
The Skateboard Shop is in Pancake Station. Head inside to find Mahiru at the counter; she starts the spray-can and board-marker quest chain. After completing both collections, return to the shop to access it.

Boost behavior and tricks
On keyboard, press R while riding on the ground to boost for faster travel. Pressing R in midair performs a small trick instead. On controller, use LB to boost.
Best traversal uses
- Explore the map faster than walking, which helps with collectible quests like finding sprays and markers.
- Use the boost (R / LB) whenever traveling between map locations such as the fountain, enchanting area, accessories shop, and skateboard shop.
- Treat the skateboard as your main early-game travel tool; deeper destinations like the Ruined Station are end-game content beyond beginner traversal.
If the skateboard doesn't work
The most likely blocker is the quest prerequisite: complete the spray-can quest first, then the board-marker quest, before riding is enabled. Check your quest tracker to confirm both collecting quests show as done. The game is in beta, so bugs affecting access should be reported in-game; joining the official group also grants perks like auto flip while you finish the quests.
